Commitment of UchiDeshi & SotoDeshi
Before applying for the Uchi Deshi or Soto Deshi program, please consider the following points:
- Priorities: The dojo is the first priority. A person applying for acceptance to a Deshi Program should understand that this commitment is not to be taken lightly.
- Lifestyle: Living conditions are spartan. Uchi Deshi live in the dojo, tidying and putting away their personal belongings before the first class each day.
- 24/7 Service: The demands for the care, cleaning, and business maintenance of the dojo and attention to the needs and wishes of the Sensei are unrelenting.
- Training: Not only more demanding than that asked of the dojo members at large, but more frequent.
For these reasons, one should consider very carefully before applying for entrance to the Uchi Deshi or Soto Deshi program.
Living Arrangements and Costs
The dojo doubles as sleeping quarters for the UchiDeshi for a minimal rent. The dojo is to be maintained in an orderly fashion at all times. All deshi are expected to pay a monthly training fee.
