The People of Aikido Kenkyukai: Lauren Ko
May 18, 2022“I want to continue to train Aikido because it helps me to stay healthy, keep my blood pressure normal (My dad’s side has a history of hypertension) and loose weight.”
- Lauren Ko, 31
- Eyeglasses Consultant
- AKI Los Angeles
Lauren was curious about Aikido, but she was nervous that she might be too old.
"I was nervous and also worried about my age because I thought 31 years old might be too old to start any martial arts."
She decided to take a chance and she signed up for the "Essential Intro Package" with 5 classes.
She came in for her first class and was completely exhausted afterwards. (in a good way!) She came back two days later for her second class and said, "I was again extremely exhausted afterwards, but happy that I was able to train longer than at my first class."
Nowadays, she's able to stay on the mat for the entire class and get a full workout.
When asked why she continues to train, she said, "I want to continue to train Aikido because it helps me to stay healthy, keep my blood pressure normal (My dad’s side has a history of hypertension) and loose weight."
Lauren never misses the special once-a-month hybrid classes at the dojo, with visitors joining virtually from around the globe. She said, "Joining the hybrid classes gives me the opportunity to focus more on details of techniques.."
When Lauren isn’t training, she likes drawing and watching cat videos on YouTube, anime, movies, Netflix.
Those who wish to train with Lauren will find her at the Los Angeles dojo.
