Lightness in Grounding
This week’s theme will be “Lightness in Grounding.”
Training online brings its own set of challenges. Often times we catch ourselves straining to see details on our screen, at the expense of maintaining our posture and structure. And we stop moving.
Lia Sensei encourages us to continue our movement and embrace the space in which we happen to find ourselves – all the while guiding us through thoughtful verbal instruction.
She not only draws our attention to the angles and lines of the footwork as we move around our spaces, but also the lines and angles within our own structure.
All this is delivered in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with attention to mindfulness and awareness. Connecting one-on-one with each student, everyone leaves the class with clear tasks for improvement and growth, as well as a feeling of renewal.
Meet the Instructor
Lia Suzuki Sensei, Aikikai 6th dan

Suzuki Sensei has about 40 years of experience in Aikido. She brings a fresh and down-to-earth teaching style to our Virtual Dojo community.
Whether broadcasting from her living room, her dojo, or a beautiful park in Los Angeles, Suzuki Sensei often leaves her zoom on “Gallery View” so she can connect with every participant, giving individualized guidance and tips, appropriate to each student.
Her movements reflect her years of dedicated training, focusing on basics such as alignment, posture, zanshin, as well as advanced technical points such as correct angles and transitions.
Her classes are original, inviting, and hugely informative for beginners and experts alike.
